Leicester City midfielder James Maddison is one of Manchester United’s primary transfer targets according to a report in the Athletic. The 23-year-old has been one of the Foxes’ standout players during what’s been an impressive campaign so far and his performances have sparked interest from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.

The Englishman has scored five goals and provided three assists in 15 Premier League appearances this season and is currently valued at £54m, according to Transfermarkt.co.uk. That is significantly more than the £22.5m the East Midlands club paid to sign him from Norwich City in July 2018.

TIF Tactics – The King Power Stadium is the place to be

Granted Leicester City aren’t as big as Manchester United, they don’t have the financial muscle or the global fanbase the Red Devils boast but based on footballing terms the Foxes are miles ahead at present. Indeed, 14 points separate Leicester in second and Manchester United in 5th. Brendan Rodgers is, perhaps, a better manager than Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and therefore a move to Old Trafford now would make little sense.

Maddison’s confidence has grown of late, particularly under the stewardship of Rodgers and the King Power Stadium feels like the perfect place for him to develop and work towards his full potential. The manager’s popularity since his arrival has boosted morale and for the first time since Claudio Ranieri’s side won the title, the entire squad appear to be singing from the same hymn sheet and on the road to potentially achieving something great.

Leicester City will do everything within their power to keep hold of one of their star players and United will no doubt be forced to pay way over the odds if they believe Maddison is the right man for them.
