James Maddison will face his former club Norwich City for the first time since swapping Carrow Road for the King Power stadium and ahead of the weekend’s fixture the 23-year-old has spoken of his special bond with the Canaries fans.

The Foxes paid in excess of £20m for the attacking-midfield player in 2018 and he’s, arguably, been worth every penny. Although Maddison certainly won’t be regretting a move that has been great for his career, he admits he still keeps a close eye on Norwich City’s results.

“Norwich is the first result I check every week. I feel more like a supporter than an ex-player,” he said. “I want Norwich to win every single week, just two weekends when they don’t. This is one of them. I’ve got to treat it as any other game.

“It’s not any other game, it’s a special game for me. I’m not going to say different because Norwich is a club where I’ve got so many great memories from my time there.

“I met so many great people, that period of my life was when I felt like I was on top of the world. Everything about my life I just loved, from living in Norwich, the people, the fans. That’s why I have a soft spot because that’s how they made me feel.

“I am not lying when I say that. I don’t say that about every club I have been at. It has to be business as usual. I’ll go in with the same mindset as I have every other game I have played for Leicester City, and that’s to win the game and play the best I can for my team.”

TIF Tactics – Are Leicester City daring to dream?

Whilst proclaiming his affection for the club at which he made a name for himself, Maddison’s professionalism certainly shouldn’t be questioned. He and the rest of Brendan Rodgers’ side have opened a gap on Manchester City in third will now be looking up at Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool hoping to catch them.

They may not be talking about the title publicly at the King Power Stadium but their run of results and impressive performances all season will certainly have them dreaming of the unthinkable.
