Supporters of Everton have reacted furiously with Gylfi Sigurdsson following the defeat to Liverpool in the Merseyside derby.
The Icelandic midfielder played the full 90 minutes for Marco Silva on Wednesday night, and also captained the side during the 5-2 defeat at Anfield (per The Guardian).
With many supporters angry over the defeat to the noisy neighbours, their frustrations were turned on the 30-year-old middleman who they believed delivered a performance which was not up to scratch.
Fair play to Gylfi Sigurdsson for putting in yet again another ghostly and spineless performance. How he has not been subbed? How was Calvert-Lewin and Davies took off instead of him. He’s not added anything to this game, he’s hardly touched the ball

How is he captain

Said it on Sunday. A passenger.

He is part of the reason why we are bottom 3. Spineless and like many others robbing a wage.

Biggest waste of money… May as well throw a Centre half in midfield and have some presence.

Was Gylfi Sigurdsson the worst performer in the Merseyside derby?Yes, he was woefulNo, there was worse |
So far this term, the midfielder has made 16 appearances for the Goodison Park club, over which he has bagged two goals and an assist (as per Transfermarkt).
Criticism has been levelled at the Icelandic international on a number of occasions already this season and supporters felt that his performance against the Reds was just a further extension of his poor form.
Sigurdsson = 2019 Hide and Seek Champion.

Been a passenger all season, not one player has played well today but he’s been invisible

And he’s our ‘captain’ tonight…
— Victoria Gentle (@VGentle) December 4, 2019
Gyfi has been poor. He offered nothing to the game again and maybe is past his best. I was unsure to whether we should but him in the first place

What do we think?
While there were many poor performances throughout the side in the defeat to Jurgen Klopp’s outfit, Sigurdsson’s stood out as one of the worst.
Similar to a number of the Everton contingent, the 30-year-old midfielder picked up a dismal rating in the clash of 3/10 (as per Liverpool Echo).
