Some Crystal Palace fans are hailing their goalkeeper Vicente Guaita as the best goalkeeper in the league after his most recent accolade.

The 32-year-old, who started recently for Palace against Burnley, was handed the club’s Player of the Month award for his performances in November.

Guaita made as many as three saves for the club in the 2-0 win over the Clarets, as goals from Wilfried Zaha and Jeffrey Schlupp helped the Eagles up to 11th in the Premier League table.

Is Guaita the best goalkeeper in the Premier League?

No doubt about it!

No doubt about it!

There's many better!

Some Palace fans are raving about Guaita and feel that the former Getafe man is the best goalkeeper in the Premier League today.

Guaita joined the Eagles from La Liga side Getafe in the summer of 2018 even though a deal for the Spaniard was agreed in the winter of 2018. He arrived on a free transfer and has become a regular first-choice stopper since then.

This season, Guaita has played 12 times in the Premier League and has been instrumental to the club’s current league position of 11th. In the month of November, Palace have conceded six goals, but they have come against top four sides in Leicester City, Liverpool and Chelsea.

The win over Burnley was Guaita’s fourth clean sheet of the year and in total, he has conceded 14 goals for the Eagles. Last season, he had become a regular at the club in the second half of the campaign, playing just 20 Premier League games. During that time, the former Valencia man had kept eight clean sheets and only shipped 23 goals.

What do we think?

Guaita, who is valued at £4.5 million (as per Transfermarkt), has been immense for Palace. Not just this season, but throughout this season and since playing regularly last season.

Wayne Hennessey, who was playing ahead of him last season till December 2018, had conceded 26 goals in 18 appearances for the club. He had kept only five clean sheets. Those numbers, on an average, are much lesser than Guaita. Indeed, they show the impact that Guaita has brought.

As the season wears on, he will be very crucial in Palace’s hunt for Premier League survival.
