Some Celtic fans have made it clear that they are desperate to see their club sign Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Victor Wanyama in the upcoming January transfer window.

The Spurs midfielder, who is a former Hoops player himself, has previously been linked with a move to Celtic and the most latest links came as recent as some days ago. But some months ago, Victor Wanyama has made comments about a potential move back to Parkhead.

The Kenyan midfielder said that Celtic is ‘like a family’ to him because of how the club gave him a platform to perform at the big stage. These comments have come back on social media and have gone viral.

Celtic fans: Do you want Wanyama at Parkhead?

Sure, we miss him!

Sure, we miss him!

Never, he'd want too much!

Never, he'd want too much!

And some Hoops have become nostalgic about the comments and they’ve made it clear that they want their club to sign the former Southampton man.

Wanyama, who is now valued at £10.8m by TransferMarkt, left Parkhead back in the summer of 2013 when he joined Southampton under the tutelage of Mauricio Pochettino. The fee involved was £12.5m. He later joined the Argentine at Tottenham in the summer of 2016, joining the club for a fee of £11 million.

The 2016-17 season was, arguably, the best of Wanyama’s Spurs career, when he played 47 times in all competitions and even scored five times, racking up a single assist. He helped the club finish second in the Premier League, but he has fallen down the pecking order since then due to a sheer number of injuries.

This season, Wanyama has played only four times in the Premier League. He has made only one start in all competitions and that came in the club’s loss to Colchester United in the League Cup. Since the 2016-17 campaign, Wanyama has played just 47 games due to injury.

What do we think?

Celtic do need a defensive midfielder. There is no doubt about Scott Brown’s abilities, but they need someone to play as second-choice in that position. Wanyama can do that and challenge Brown for that position. With his situation declining at Spurs, it could be a good time to sign him.
