Scottish giants Celtic are looking keen to beat several Premier League clubs in the chase for Stoke City rising star Josep Bursik in the upcoming January transfer window, as per Football Insider.

The report claims that Neil Lennon’s side have been monitoring the progress of Bursik for a while now and there are several Premier League clubs in the chase for the youngster too. But the Hoops remain confident that they can fight off competition to sign the 19-year-old Londoner.

No harm in a cut-price deal

He is currently on loan at Accrington Stanley and his rise to prominence is attracting interest from many. His current deal at Stoke runs out in the summer of 2020 and Celtic are ‘keen’ on signing him on a cut-price deal. It is unknown whether he is going to agree a new deal with the Potteries or not.

One for the future

Currently an England Under-20s international, Bursik is now a regular for that team. He made his debut in September this year and has played a total of four times, including his debut against the Netherlands.

For Stanley this season, Bursik is yet to completely break into the club’s first-team. He has made only two appearances in the senior side and one of the two came in the League Two in the club’s game against Portsmouth recently.

For Stoke, Bursik hasn’t made his first-team debut yet. But he has risen up the ranks at the club over the years. For the club’s Under-23s side, he has played 11 games and has conceded 23 goals and keept one clean sheet.

TIF Tactics

There seems a real uncertainty about the goalkeeping positions at Parkhead. It is unknown whether Fraser Forster will be signed permanently, having impressed in his ongoing temporary loan stint at his former club. Scott Bain did sign a new deal recently, but is far from a regular.

That’s why interest in Bursik comes at an interesting time. He is 19 and an upcoming talent. There would be no harm if Celtic sign him in January for a cut-price deal and loan him out again to keep his development going. He isn’t going to get first-team football whilst Fraser Forster is at the club. But it will be a very smart long-term signing.
