It hasn’t been an easy few seasons for Sunderland fans. Having fallen from the Premier League all the way to the EFL League One, the fans are hoping that the team can at least claw their way back up to the Championship at the end of the season.
In an attempt to raise the fan’s moral, the Sunderland Twitter account has been tweeting out great memories from the past. This week they tweeted about a great Marcus Stewart goal.
Some fans remembered the goal, claiming that it sent the stadium into a frenzy. Others focused on the pass, saying it was sublime.
Only just coming up the steps to seat after finishing pint on concourse. Almost ended up back at bottom of stairs in the ruckus. Brilliant night

What a pass

But some fans were tired of the nostalgic tweets, claiming that it only makes the fans feel worse about the current situation.
Ah yes the good old days when #SAFC had a team.

You really need to lay off tweeting nostalgia from better times. It doesn’t do anyone any favours and makes the fans feel even worse.

What do we think?
Part of being a football fan is being able to enjoy your club’s greatest memories. But to these Sunderland fans, it only reminds them of how far their club has fallen from the top. It just highlights the mess the Black Cats are in right now. Perhaps, the sooner the results start to get better and Phil Parkinson’s side climb back up the football pyramid, then maybe they can start to post some nostalgia that will be well received once again.
