Sunderland fans had the chance to sit down with Sunderland executive director Charlie Methven. The discussion allowed fans to air their grievances with the people who are in charge of their club. The night was transcribed by Sunderland fan @Kingy78_.
One statement made by Methven would have come as a surprise to Sunderland fans. The executive director insisted that should the club achieved promotion they will be able to compete with some of the most competitive teams in the championship regarding their budgets.
But this news wasn’t well-received by Sunderland fans on Twitter. It’s not that they didn’t like the idea of spending money, it was that they just didn’t believe promises. They insist that talk is cheap and that they’ve heard it all before.

Some fans I think this is an easy statement to make when the club looks so far off promotion at the moment. They would rather know what Methven’s plans are for the club should they fail to make it out of the league.
All good and well him saying that but we have no chance whatsoever of getting promoted.

It is obviously a tough time for everybody involved Sunderland Football Club at the moment. Regardless of whether or not Methven’s claims were truthful, they still have a long way to go before they can start planning how to compete in the Championship. Their priority, right now, should be getting out of the EFL League One.
