After an impressive run of form, Alfredo Morelos has been called up to the Colombian National Team. Rangers Twitter posted the news to congratulate the striker. In the build-up to his call-up, Morelos scored a staggering six goals in five games (WhoScored.com).

It is clear from his statistics that the player’s call-up is fully deserved. In his three appearances for Colombia’s senior team though, Morelos is yet to score a goal (transfermarkt.co.uk). This has statistic has been a cloud over Morelos’ head when being compared to the best strikers in the world.

Indeed, Celtic fans, in particular, have raved about their star striker Odsonne Edouard (Daily Record) and Rangers fans appear to have turned the tables on them. Edouard may have nine goals in four games for France, but it has only been at the U21 level and the £6.75m-rated forward is yet to receive a senior call-up (transfermarkt.co.uk).

When the news broke out of Morelos’ selection, Rangers fans were quick to poke fun at Edouard. Their sarcastic replies say it all.

One fan hopes Morelos can get his name on the scoresheet during this international break and answer his critics.

What do we think?

With the form he is in, it would be silly to bet against Morelos scoring during the international break. If he does it would show his ability to score at any level. We have a feeling it won’t keep the Celtic fans quiet though.
