Some Nottingham Forest fans feel that the club’s defender, Matty Cash, is the best right-back in the Championship currently.

The 22-year-old played in the club’s recent 1-0 win over Derby County and he has made 14 appearances in the Championship so far for the club this season. He has scored two times, assisting just as many times so far.

After the win in the East Midlands Derby, Cash was hailed by Forest fans. Some feel that he is the best in the league in his position, after seeing him be picked by the EFL for their latest Championship team of the week (via Twitter).

Cash joined Forest from FAB Academy in the summer of 2014 after a successful trial. He spent as many as 16 months in the FAB academy and also had a temporary loan stint at Dagenham and Redbridge in March 2016.

Since breaking into the first-team at the City Ground in the 2016-17 season, Cash has played 112 times for the club. During this time, he has scored 12 times and has also racked up a tally of 12 assists.

Some fans believe his recent performances have been very impressive, with a couple of them deciding to hail his workrate.

The win over Derby helped Forest climb upto the fifth-place in the Championship table. They are now only five points behind table-toppers West Bromwich Albion.

What do we think?

Cash has been one of Forest’s best players in the Championship this season. WhoScored has given the 22-year-old the highest rating at the club, standing at a score of 7.27. Indeed, as the club gears up for a promotion charge, Cash’s performances will be key in determining whether the Reds go back into the Premier League or not.
