Newcastle fans have taken to Twitter to defend winger Miguel Almiron about his lack of goals for the club.
This comes after Newcastle journalist and Sky Sports reported Keith Downie shared a post on his official Twitter page relaying quotes from Steve Bruce’s recent press conference ahead of the Magpies’ upcoming Premier League clash with Bruce’s former club Aston Villa.
This post included quotes specifically on Almiron, and how Bruce is confident he will score his first goal for the club soon, here’s what he said:
“I’ve never seen anyone in 20 years cover the distance or play with the intensity that he does. His running stats are incredible – as big as I’ve seen for any player. He’s multi-talented, I’m confident it’ll happen for him.”
This then gathered a number of replies from Newcastle fans that agreed with the manager’s comments.
Here’s a sample of Newcastle fans defending Almiron on his lack of goals:
We are better with Almiron than without him. His haters are clueless tbh.
He should be scoring a few but his overall play and work ethic is great and he has been involved in many goals.

Nice to see Bruce sees it where as clueless other footy fans are quick to slate him for getting no goals or assists

Why is Bruce constantly being asked about him, just creates more pressure. If you know football you know he benefits the team

The Paraguayan forward, who is currently valued at £18 million, according to Transfermarkt, joined the Tyneside club in January this year. Despite making 22 appearances for the club, he is yet to register his first goal for the club (per Transfermarkt).
I do feel sorry for Almiron he plays his socks off for the black and whit shirt. Playing in the MLS is completely different to the MLS is completely different to the EFL. Once he gets his first on Monday night v Aston Villa.

No one was complaining about his lack of goals when he was running his socks off and creating space for Rondon and Ayoze to knock them in. Problem now is that none of the front 3 are scoring.

Bruce will get the best out of him!

What do we think?
It’s good to see the manager have faith in Almiron and recognise his efforts on the pitch without just focusing on his lack of goals or assists. It goes without saying that both Bruce and the Newcastle fans will want Almiron to start scoring, but the best way to allow him to do that is to keep playing him in matches and keep believing in him.
