Chelsea fans have been expressing their wishes on twitter for defender Fikayo Tomori to start in England’s upcoming qualifying match against Montenegro on Thursday.

This comes after the official England Twitter account shared a post that included a video of the Chelsea defender scoring a hat-trick of goals in one of the national team’s training sessions.

This post then led to a number of Chelsea fans pleading for Tomori to start in Thursday’s match.

Here’s a sample of Chelsea fans wanting Tomori to start on Thursday:

The defender was amongst five Chelsea players that were included in England manager’s recent squad to play in the two upcoming Euro 2020 qualifiers against Montenegro and Kosovo. As well as Tomori, Mason Mount, Tammy Abraham, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Ross Barkley were also called up from the West-London club.

One fan even described him as the new John Terry in the making, which is high praise when you consider the fact that the Englishman made 711 appearances for the Blues, as well as being regarded as a legend.

What do we think?

With the 21-year-old impressing for his club this season, it came as no surprise he was called up to carry on this good form for his country. Tomori has made 14 appearances for Chelsea so far this season in all competitions, scoring one and assisting one along the way (per Transfermarkt).

Despite his recent goal-scoring heroics in England training, Tomori has been impressive defensively this season, averaging a total of 2.5 tackles and 2.9 clearances per game in all competitions for club and country (per WhoScored).

Whether he will start against Montenegro today is up to Southgate, but maybe playing him in an attacking position off the back of his hat-trick in training would be an unlikely move.
