Chelsea fans have been pleading on Twitter for Antonio Rudiger to stay at the club after reports of a potential contract renewal surface.
These calls from Chelsea fans came after fan Twitter account @CarvalhoJTElite shared a post on their page that included an article from the Daily Mail who originally reported the news.
This tweet then made a huge stir on Twitter after the fan account stated in the caption that the club “needs to sell” the defender.
This then led to a number of Chelsea fans disagreeing with the statement that Rudiger should be sold.
Here’s a sample of Chelsea fans wanting Rudiger to stay:
He’s our best CB, makes sense to give an extension. It’s a no brainer, not even up for discussion really

Sell Rudiger? I mean yeah Zouma has recently very well cemented his place but Rudiger could still make a comeback. Also I don’t think with Tomori and Zouma and Christensen we’ll buy a fancy big money CB anyways. I think Rudiger should be kept.

The German international, who is currently valued at £45 million, according to Transfermarkt, has only played 45 Premier League minutes for Chelsea so far this season, spending the rest of his time struggling with injuries and fitness (per Transfermarkt).
But despite this, there are still some Chelsea fans that are confident the centre-back will get his way back into the team when he is fit again.
Rudiger will walk into our first 11 after recovery, he’s better dan all curent defenders we have

Sometimes we so forget the passion and commitment his shown for this club. He had a bad injury playing for us and now we think he is surplus to requirements bcos Zouma and Tomori in form. Unbelievable!!!.

Contract renewal is a no brainer.— Sagi Kerner (@sagi_kerner_) November 13, 2019
What do we think?
It’s a shame Rudiger has missed so much action this season, but he will be pleased to see how many Chelsea fans still want him at the club despite not knowing when they could see him play again.
Last season saw the 26-year-old total an average of 2.9 clearances in 33 Premier League appearances (per WhoScored). Whereas Fikayo Tomori has only averaged a total of 2.4 clearances so far this season. Although, Tomori pips him in terms of tackles and interceptions, with 2.5 and 1.8 compared to Rudiger’s 1 and 1 respectively, so it depends what stats matters more to the club but it’s safe to say that Tomori will be difficult to dislodge.
