Some Celtic fans are really hoping that the club’s 23-year-old midfielder Lewis Morgan can leave the club as he isn’t good enough for a club like the Hoops.

St. Mirren manager Jim Goodwin has told STV that the club is currently hoping to sign Morgan back from the Hoops in January. He has revealed that the club will hold talks with Celtic soon in an attempt to broker a deal for their former player.

Goodwin hailed Morgan as a ‘quality footballer’ and revealed that his club would not miss out the chance to sign the player if the opportunity does come.

He told STV: “Of course Lewis would be a player we’d love to get, he’s obviously been here before and been very successful. He’s a quality footballer but at this minute in time he’s not available.

“We haven’t been told by Celtic that he is and he remains part of their squad.”

Some Celtic fans are happy about these links and want the player to leave for his former club.

Morgan joined the Bhoys from St.Mirren in the winter of 2018 for around £300,000 and was then loaned back to his former club till the end of the 2017-18 campaign.

Last season, Morgan was at Parkhead for the first half of the campaign. He featured 13 times in all competitions during that time, failing to score or assist even once. But in the second half of the campaign, the Scotsman was loaned out to Sunderland.

At the Black Cats, Morgan became a regular in the League One. He played 22 times in all competitions, racking up a tally of two assists and four goals during that time.

So far this season, Morgan has played thrice in the Premiership for the club. But in all competitions, he has featured 13 times and has one assist and two assists so far.

What do we think?

His stint at Sunderland last season suggests that there is a player in there. And Morgan is still 23 and is yet to reach his peak. But at that age, he needs regular football to thrive and improve. The Sunderland spell showed what his level might be and if the right offer does come, Celtic should not hesitate to let him go permanently too.
