Some Celtic fans have expressed their anger towards Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers, who has given an interview about why he left the Glaswegian outfit last season.

The man from Northern Ireland recently gave an interview to the Daily Record and opened up about why he left the Bhoys last season to head to the King Power Stadium.

He said: “I then had a decision to make about going into a new project at Leicester where there is an ambition there and there are challenges that I would be excited by.

“We were 27 games into a league campaign. We were clear at the top of the league, we had already won a cup and I felt I was leaving the club in a good state.

“OK, the timing wasn’t ideal for many people but I felt the club was in a really good place, the players’ mentality, everything around the club was healthy.”

Fans from Celtic Park weren’t too pleased by the comments of the former Liverpool boss.

Leicester had sacked former manager Claude Puel in February after the Foxes were struggling near the bottom of the Premier League. Rodgers joined the club that month and steered the club to a ninth-placed finish.

Rodgers had been at Celtic since the summer of 2016 and won every domestic trophy during his time at the club. He also helped the club go on a 69-game-long unbeaten run and broke a 100-year-old British record.

The former Liverpool boss also won the treble twice during his time, helping the club qualify for the UEFA Champions League in both of his full seasons at Celtic Park.

Kolo Toure, who was part of Rodgers’ coaching staff at Celtic, also joined Leicester this past February.

But fans also hailed current boss Neil Lennon, who had returned Glasgow after Rodgers had left.

While Celtic are currently at the top of the Scottish Premiership table, they are tied at the top with fierce rivals Rangers on goal difference.

Rodgers’ Leicester have impressed in the Premier League and are second in the table, as many as eight points behind league leaders Liverpool.

What do we think?

There is two ways to look at this but the way Leicester are playing under Rodgers should back up for the fact that he made the right decision in moving. The Foxes have scored the second-highest number of goals in the league and have the best defensive record too.

Having said that, Celtic notched up huge European wins against Lazio and it is clear that no parties have come worse off in this break-up. It is time to move on and think ahead.
