Some Celtic fans believe that the Green Brigade ban for the upcoming Europa League game is self-inflicted because of the behaviour of some other fans.
It was confirmed yesterday that the Hoops have closed a part of the Green Brigade stand due to safety concerns from the authorities.
The club was handed out a fine of £12,900 by UEFA because the fans had displayed an offensive banner in their Europa League clash against Serie A giants Lazio. The Hoops were also fined for using flares in the Europa League games against Cluj and AIK.
A debate raged on Twitter about this issue and some Bhoys fans feel that the defaulters were warned about the issue before-hand.
Call me old fashioned, but our club @CelticFC banning its own supporters does not sit well with me. HH

They’ve been warned and warned, over £200,000 in fines for mostly GB related problems. This is the same group who rant at the club for forgetting it’s roots, now they make us contribute to UEFA pension pot on a regular basis. I’d like to hear their defense of the fines.

Weather anyone agrees with pyro or not, the club should take more responsibility as well as supporters. Either do what others do and facilitate the safe use of it, as others do, or ask what thee security is doing for entry into the section, HH

What doesnt sit right with me is a small number of supporters deciding to behave in a way, that they know will see the club land in trouble.

What doesn’t sit well with me is the supporters continually stepping over the mark and getting the club fined. Celtic take this action or UEFA take this action..its self inflicted

Totally understand where your coming from. My option is the a certain section of our support are behaving like unruly children. The club has asked for no pyro and it has fallen on deaf ears.

The club done the right thing in my opinion, fine after fine and it’s getting a bit ridiculous so the board had to do something at some point and hopefully it will curtail the shear number of fines going forward because the club doesn’t come out of it looking good

Despite the controversy around the bans and the behaviour of the fans, the Hoops have been doing very well in the Europa League this season. The recent 2-1 win over Lazio was a true reflection of that.
They are currently at the top of their group in the Europa League, with a clash against Rennes coming up on Thursday. They have ten points on board, with Cluj at second with nine points. Lazio are at third with just three points on board and they are currently at risk of elimination after losing the two games to the Hoops.
In the Premiership, they are at the top of the league too. Fierce rivals Rangers are behind them only one goal-difference. Neil Lennon’s side recently beat Livingston 4-0, while Rangers beat Hamilton 3-1, meaning that the goal difference increased between the two sides.
Is the Green Brigade ban justified?
Yes, it is!
Overturn it!
What do we think?
While some Celtic fans are entitled to their opinion about the ban and they can be negative about it, but the club has had to pay three fines in one campaign because of fan misconduct. And a certain section of the fanbase is letting the club down, in this regard. To teach that part a lesson, this ban is necessary.
