Celtic manager Neil Lennon is said to be struggling to keep veteran goalkeeper Craig Gordon at the club, as per Football Insider.

Gordon, 36, is said to be considering his future at the Glasgow club and the manager is currently being troubled by the club’s inability to keep him in the Scottish capital.

The report claims that Gordon is also considering running down his deal at Celtic to either look for a new club or seek retirement from the game completely. He is now third in the pecking order for goalkeepers, behind on-loan Fraser Forster and Scott Bain.

A veteran in Glasgow

Gordon, who turned 37 next month, has been at Celtic since the summer of 2014. He joined the Hoops on a free transfer after a short career break in which he was recovering from knee injuries that had threatened his career.

Even last season, the former Sunderland man dealt with knee issues – as he had in the 2017-18 campaign under former boss Brendan Rodgers. During his time at the Black Cats, Gordon had injured his ACL in the 2010-11 season and had missed as many as 25 games because of that.

That last time the Scotsman had played for Celtic was last season, as he has failed to play a single game of football this season. Last season, he made 18 appearances in the Scottish Premiership, conceding 14 goals and keeping as many as nine clean-sheets.

TIF Tactics

While Gordon’s service over the five years at Celtic is irreplaceable, it seems as though time is up for him to play regular football at the top level. Or atleast at Celtic. Forster’s impressive performance at Lazio had seen many praise him, while Bain had signed a new four-year dealĀ at the club two weeks ago.

It shows as to who the club prefers as the regulars and who is a replaceable figure for them now. That is clearly Gordon himself. Injuries haven’t helped him. His track record suggests that these injuries are cropping up consistently and they might still keep on happening.
