Earlier in the week, Rangers Football Club posted an update on the players currently out on loan for their club. One of those players was Eduardo Herrera. The 31-year-old forward is currently on loan to Mexican side Necaxa (Rangers).

Considering his age it is unlikely that the player is going to make a stunning return to Glasgow. But with the player still on Rangers’ books, fans may be interested to know how he is doing. Let’s take a look at how he has impacted games.

TIF Tactics – How has Eduardo Herrera performed in Mexico?

Herrera has only played a total of 809 minutes so far this season. In that time he has managed to score three goals from 15 shots. Let’s have a look at his average influence per 90 minutes.

In an attacking sense, Herrera, who is valued at £900k (Transfermarkt), hasn’t been that impactful. Potentially, this is because most of his appearances coming off the bench. In fact, he has only played one full 90-minute match in Liga MX so far this season. In 13 of his 14 appearances, he played for less than half an hour.

He has an average xG (expected goals) of 0.47 per 90 minutes. He has slightly underperformed on that expectation, scoring 0.33 goals per 90 minutes. He only manages to achieve 1.67 shots per full game of football, with a 40% shooting accuracy.

With these statistics would you bring Herrera back to Rangers?

It is clear that Herrera isn’t finding his feet in Mexico. It seems unlikely, given his age and recent performances, that Steven Gerrard would consider bringing the striker back to Ibrox. With Jermain Defoe and Alfredo Morelos running riot in the Scottish Premiership, there is no real need to bring in an ‘experienced’ forward into the team anyway. It seems more likely that Herrera will see out his career in his home nation of Mexico. It’s likely the best scenario for all parties involved.
