Current Celtic boss Neil Lennon has revealed as to why the club’s fanbase disconnected with the club when former manager Brendan Rodgers last season.

Ahead of Celtic’s Scottish Premiership game against Motherwell at the weekend, he talked about the issues some of the club’s fanbase had with former manager Rodgers following his departure in his press conference (per Sky Sports).

He said: “It felt for the first time in my second stint as manager like real Celtic again; that love, that pride, that connection. They helped the team enormously. When I came back in February there was a disconnection with Brendan (Rodgers) leaving. We lost a great manager and there was a disconnection between certain supporters and the club.

“But it was all connected again last night. There was real pride and it felt like the old days for me. Sending them home happy was as pleasing to me as winning the game with the players.”

The miracle in Rome and the lions of Leicester

Lennon recently oversaw his Bhoys side come back from 1-0 down to beat Lazio at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome. This was the second time in two weeks that the club has beaten Simone Inzaghi’s men.

They found themselves 1-0 down, thanks to a Ciro Immobile strike. But a second-half goal from James Forrest and a stoppage-time winner from Olivier Ntcham saw Lennon’s men seal a memorable win for the Glaswegian side (Sky Sports).

Rodgers, on the other hand, left Celtic for Leicester City last season. He took the club to a ninth-place finish in the Premier League. This season, the Foxes are as high as third in the league and are only eight points behind Rodgers’ former club Liverpool, who are at the top of the Premier League.

TIF Tactics

It will be unfair to compare as to who is a better manager, just because Rodgers could not come up with a sensational win in Europe. Rodgers won the Invincibles Crown with the club though and helped the club win a treble two times during his time (Daily Record). An achievement like that can’t be replaced by anything else.

Celtic have already lost one game under Lennon this season, losing 2-0 to Livingston. But they have progressed through to the League Cup (TransferMarkt).
