After a photo emerged on Twitter, talk of Jordan Jones potentially making a return to Steven Gerrard’s side has increased, which could hand Rangers fans something to look forward to after to international break. The Englishman injured himself and earned a red card all at the same time in the last Old Firm (The Daily Record).

Having only played 727 minutes in all competitions this season, Rangers fans are still yet to get a good look at what the player can actually bring to the table for the Gers after joining the club on a free transfer in the summer (transfermarkt.co.uk). Luckily for you, TIF has all the statistics you need.

TIF Tactics – What can Jordan Jones bring to the table for Rangers?

The player spent a majority of the early stages of the season in the left-winger position. This is a position that both Ryan Kent and Sheyi Ojo have played for the club. Right off the bat, the resurgence of Jones will provide Gerrard with more depth in wide areas.

Regarding his passing, Jones boasted 259 passes in his start to the season, with an impressive 83% passing accuracy. He made 15 of those passes into the final third (excluding balls into the box), all of which were successful. Of his 36 balls into the box, only 41.7% were successful, however. Of his 38 forward passes, 92.1% were successful. Is appears as if Jones has a lot to offer Rangers in terms of buildup play. The player managed to register three assists in his 727 minutes of play in 2019/2020.

But Rangers fans would be wise not to expect too much of Jones in terms of goals scored. Jones hasn’t scored yet this season, and only registered an average xG (expected goals) of 0.13 per 90 minutes. This indicates that Jones isn’t finding himself in many goal-scoring areas for the Gers. But with Alfredo Morelos and Jermain Defoe scoring 38 combined goals this season, Rangers fans won’t be too worried.

Should Jones make his way back into the picture for Gerrard, it will surely add an element of depth to Englishman’s team. The manager will be relying on Jones to help set up goals for his teammates, as well as help break down defences.
