This week, Rangers Football Club posted a short review on the players they currently have out on loan. One of those players was Jake Hastie. The 21-year-old left-winger is currently out on loan with Rotherham United.

The Scotsman joined the English side at the beginning of the 2019/2020 season. In 14 appearances he has scored three goals. He just played 64 minutes during Rotherham’s 3-2 win against MK Dons on the weekend (Rangers). But how has the player performed overall so far the season?

TIF Tactics – A look at Hastie’s beginning of the season

In order to analyse how the young winger has done, we will look at his influence on games per 90 minutes on average.

Offensively, Hastie has scored 0.28 goals per 90 minutes This exceeds his xG (expected goals) of 0.19. And while he has scored more goals than expected, his shot accuracy isn’t that high. Of his averaged 1.85 shots per 90, only 45% are on target.

His ability to progress the ball up the park also needs a bit of work. He only averages 15.57 passes per 90 minutes, with a 61.9% accuracy. As a winger, he naturally dribbles quite a lot. He averages 9.92 dribbles per 90 minutes but is only successful 51.4% of the time.

Would you bring Hastie back to Ibrox next season if his statistics say the same? Or do you think he still needs a bit of work?

While he is still young, at 21 years of age Hastie will be hoping to find his feet before the end of the season. If he wants to return to Rangers and make an impact under Steven Gerrard, he must show more. For now, he still has a long season ahead and plenty of opportunities to showcase what he can offer. Rangers and Rotherham fans will be hoping that he does.
