Graeme Murty’s side won yet another cup match this week after beating Slovan Bratislava. The young Gers beat the Slovak team 2-1 after Nathan Young-Coombes scored two goals (The Scottish Sun).

The team are progressing exceptionally well this season under the guidance of Murty. However, perhaps it is time that they make the move into Steven Gerrard’s squad. It is clear, from recent results, that the team are talented enough to compete with young clubs from all across Europe. They have also beaten senior squads such as Wrexham in domestic cup competitions as well (Rangers). The next best thing for their development would be to experience minutes playing with the first team.

Would you give Reserve players a chance despite the first-team doing so well?

However, the group’s talent may not be the most compelling aspect of their game. Gerrard will be much more interested with their winning mentality (Daily Record). The group haven’t been phased at all with their cup progressions and have embraced the opportunity to come up against difficult opposition. They will want to be playing the best even if it’s at the youth level.

It is likely that each member of Murty’s side will be eager to fight for a place in the competitive first-team environment. Gerrard can expect to have a few knocks at his door in the next couple of weeks. It won’t be long before he gives these players a chance to make a name for themselves at Ibrox.

Young-Coombes and Nathan Patterson are both players with a lot of expectation surrounding them (Football Insider). If they are given their chance soon, don’t be surprised to see other youth team players follow suit. And if they are truly as good as they have shown at the youth level, they won’t bat an eye when making the move to the senior squad.

The Reserves have a great opportunity to win multiple trophies this season. Hopefully, for Rangers fans, this is a sign of what they can expect to see in the future.
