Wolverhampton Wanderers are keeping an eye on the development of on-loan defender, Ben White, according to the Athletic.

In a podcast, it was suggested that the Old Gold are keeping tabs on the 22-year-old centre-back, who is on loan at Leeds, with a view to making a swoop for the Englishman (via Inside Futbol).

Competition for his signature

If the Molineux club wishes to sign the young centre-back, then it has been suggested that Nuno Espirito Santo’s side will face tough competition to sign the man on loan with Leeds United (as per Leeds United).

Reportedly, Leicester City have joined the Old Gold as the latest admirers of the Brighton and Hove Albion defender (via Inside Futbol).

Coupled with the Foxes and Wolves, there is also reported interest from Manchester United and Premier League table-toppers Liverpool.

TiF Tactics – Would White be a good signing?

In recent weeks, defensive midfielders Romain Saiss and Leander Dendoncker have had to be deployed as make-shift centre-backs in Nuno’s back-three (as per Express and Star).

This is due to the injury, and extended period left on the sidelines, for the club’s star centre-back, Willy Boly (via Birmingham Mail).

Therefore, the club are in desperate need of central defensive cover, which White could provide if Wolves sign the 22-year-old.

While on loan at Leeds this term, the Englishman has delivered some fantastic displays in the Championship, with a 7.25/10 average rating over his 18 league outings (as per Whoscored).

While the 22-year-old Brighton man is playing in a division lower, White gives Boly a run for his money on key stats over the season so far.

White, who is valued at £2.25 million (as per Transfermarkt), has made and an impressive 2.7 interceptions per 90, 0.5 blocks and has made only 0.7 fouls on average per game (as per Whoscored).

In comparison to Boly, the Frenchman had an average of 2.0 interceptions, 0.5 blocks and 1.4 fouls per 90 prior to his injury (as per Whoscored), meaning that White could be a viable option in January.
