Wolverhampton Wanderers supporters have reacted with disappointment following some relayed transfer news from Tim Spiers.
On Wednesday afternoon, the Wolves reporter for The Athletic shared quotes from an interview with the Old Gold’s head of recruitment, John Marshall, who played down a January move for Franck Kessie (via Tim Spiers).
In the interview, it was explained that there was “never a real negotiation” for Franck Kessie and that Wolves already “have many midfielders” (per Tim Spiers).
With the news that Nuno Espirito Santo possibly will not be strengthening the middle of the park in January, supporters reacted with disappointment.
We have many midfielders but not a lot of quality in depth imo

Don’t agree we have many midfielders, the ya re needed to cover the back and it’s probably donks best position.

We have many midfielders?
Is he off his box?

We might have many midfielders but we need better.

In the centre of midfield, Espirito Santo has: Ruben Neves, Joao Moutinho, Morgan Gibbs-White, Bruno Jordao, Ming-Yang Yang, Romain Saiss and Leander Dendoncker to choose from at a senior level (per Transfermarkt).
However, with the latter two playing at centre-back in the Old Gold’s 2-1 victory over Aston Villa (via Sky Sports), many fans felt that Marshall was bluffing to keep prices down.
MGW, Perry, Shabani, Jordao. All kids.
Saiss and Donk are playing as CBs.
So basically we have Neves and Moutinho who are properly experienced midfielders. Think he’s lying— shiv (@SK_WWFC) November 13, 2019
I suppose he can’t exactly say that we’re in need of X because as soon as that happens prices go up

Midfield is a must . A smoke screen Mr C. Will do a deal behind the scenes . Won’t publicise it…

What do we think?
Supporters are right in that it would be sensible for the head of recruitment to put up a smokescreen to avoid a hike in prices come January.
However, that comes with the territory of the winter window anyway, as clubs are charged a higher rate for their quick fix.
With many suggesting the club need more midfielders as Dendoncker and Saiss have been used as central defenders, perhaps Espirito Santo should cut out the middle man and go straight for defensive reinforcements.
