Wolverhampton Wanderers are interested in bringing SC Freiberg defender, Robin Koch, to Molineux, according to the Sun.

Reportedly, the 23-year-old German is of interest to Nuno Espirito Santo as further centre-back cover following the injury to Willy Boly (via Talking Wolves).

Wolves face competition to get him

According to the Sun, the Old Gold will potentially face some tough competition if they are to land the signature of the talented defender.

Leading the chase for the 23-year-old is, reportedly, Brendan Rodgers’ Leicester City, who are still looking for another Harry Maguire replacement (per the Sun).

However, also in the market for a centre-back is another Premier League outfit, Norwich City, who could represent further competition.

TiF Tactics – How good is Koch?

The £9-million rated German is having a flying season at the Schwarzwald Stadion and has made two senior international appearances for his country (per Transfermarkt).

Furthermore, the young defender has featured in every single minute of Freiberg’s first 11 Bundesliga matches (via Transfermarkt), which have seen them sit fourth in Germany’s top flight (via Sky Sports).

However, when in comparison to the Old Gold’s Willy Boly, Koch does not look quite as good as the Frenchman.

The German has a respectable 6.89/10 in the league so far this term, where Boly has a 7.35/10 (per Whoscored), also ranking lower in key defensive statistics.

Espirito Santo’s centre-back has an average of 2.5 tackles per 90, 2.0 interceptions and 5.7 clearances, all better than Koch’s 1.1 tackles per 90, 1.2 interceptions and 2.8 clearances (per Whoscored).

Despite the gulf in statistics, Koch would still make an astute signing for the Old Gold, certainly as a squad player, with a view to nailing down a first-team starting spot.
