Wolverhampton Wanderers winger, Adama Traore, has switched his nationality from Spanish to Malian.

Despite having been born in Spain, the 23-year-old is of Malian descent and altered his nationality to the African nation, according to Maliactu.net.

Traore had featured for Spain at Under-16, Under-17, Under-19 and Under-21 level, making 19 appearances in total for La Roja during his junior years (per Transfermarkt).

What will this mean for Wolves?

Essentially, at club level, it will mean little by way of change for the Old Gold – except for more international minutes for their man.

Previously Nuno Espirito Santo would have been without the right-winger for a number of weeks commencing in January, would Mali have qualified for the African Cup of Nations.

However, in the summer of 2017, the organisers of the competition announced that the tournament would be moved to the summer so African players were not relieved of club duties mid-season (per The Telegraph).

TiF Tactics – How does Traore compare to what Mali already had?

The 23-year-old will become the only Premier League representation in the Mali squad if selected (as per Transfermarkt).

However, there are two other Malians available for selection in England’s top-flight which did not make the cut in the last squad – Southampton’s Moussa Djeneppo and Brighton and Hove Albion’s Yves Bissouma (per Soccerway).

In terms of positional competition, Traore has only one real competitor for the right-wing spot in the Mali side – that being Hadi Sacko from Turkish side Denizlispor (via Transfermarkt).

However, Traore should be able to stamp a starting spot for Mali, with Sacko having an average rating of 6.18/10 this term and Wolves’ 23-year-old on 7.05/10 (per Whoscored).
