West Ham United insider ExWHUemployee has confirmed via Twitter that the club were indeed close to signing Barcelona star Ansu Fati. The 17-year-old wonder kid was extremely close to leaving the Camp Nou during the summer but a move never materialised.

According to Bleacher Report, the forward was just one document away from sealing a move to the London Stadium and what a signing that would have been. Fati is tipped by many to go on and become one of the world’s best footballers and if they were indeed close to securing his services they will no doubt be kicking themselves.

TIF Tactics – The next big thing?

Fati has made ten appearances for the Catalan club, scoring two goals and providing an assist. The right-footed forward prefers operating from the left-wing allowing him to cut inside and cause havoc amongst opposition defences. On 31 August 2019, he scored his first La Liga goal for Barcelona versus Osasuna, becoming the youngest player to score in the club’s rich history.

As a result, Fati became the youngest player in the 21st century to score and assist in the same game – a remarkable achievement. Born in Bissau, the youngster moved to Spain at the age of six and it’s just as well because the move eventually brought him to the attention of one of football’s great institutions. The future looks bright for Valverde’s man but just how much will West Ham regret failing to get the deal over the line?
