According to Claret and Hugh, West Ham United midfielder Jack Wilshere could be fit to face Tottenham Hotspur after the international break. Wilshere has missed the club’s last three Premier League fixtures and was last involved at Goodison Park in the 2-0 defeat to Everton.

The 27-year-old has suffered with injury problems throughout his career so the club’s medical staff remain cautious but with Mark Noble’s participation in doubt and Manuel Lanzini requiring surgery, fans will be hoping the Englishman will be available.

Wilshere, formerly of Arsenal and valued at £9m by Transfermarkt, has faced Spurs on 11 occasions in all competitions and has scored three goals against the north-London outfit. If the central midfielder is fit and available he can expect a hot reception from the visiting supporters given his history of mocking Spurs‘ lack of silverware.

TIF Tactics – Wilshere at his best can dictate play

Wilshere’s ability to dictate play and control possession in the middle of the park could be key, particularly given the absence of Manuel Lanzini and the poor form of summer signing Pablo Fornals. However, in order for the former England international to flourish, he will need protection from midfield partner Declan Rice, who is far more imposing physically. If Pellegrini can find the right blend, the pair could form a fruitful partnership and give Tottenham’s misfiring midfield a run for their money.

There is no shortage of talent when it comes to Wilshere but fitness remains the major concern. He’s managed just 177 minutes of Premier League football this season and so, even if passed fit, he’s a long way from his peak condition. The left-footed midfielder can certainly have a positive effect on the team but it’s unlikely he can provide a solution for the entire 90 minutes.
