Republic of Ireland manager Mick McCarthy sang the praises of young striker Troy Parrott in a press conference this week and many Spurs fans feel that the 17-year-old is ready for more first-team action.
Parrott, who has been part of Spurs’ academy since joining from Irish side Belvedere FC in 2017, earned his first senior call-up earlier this month. The 17-year-old has impressed in the u’18s; grabbing seven goals already this season, including a four-goal haul against Red Star Belgrade.
When speaking about Parrott, McCarthy said: “I’ve seen a bright, very intelligent footballer who is very good with the ball at his feet.”
The youngster made his first Spurs appearance in the Carabao Cup exit to Colchester and hasn’t featured since, but has still done enough to catch the eye of McCarthy.
Reaction from Spurs fans to McCarthy’s thoughts on Parrott can be seen in the tweets below.
We need young hungry players like him to be integrated into the squad.

Spurs need to give this kid a chance!!

Crazy how we keep getting linked to ‘strikers’ when this kid should be getting minutes instead.

Not good enough for our bench though eh?

Yeh he looked knackered
I think there is too much pressure on him and hasnt looked fully fit since 2017 to be completely honest
If I was Poch id give Parrott a run out in the coming weeks, and bench Kane just to ease him back to his best. Hes playing every game at the moment

Troy Parrott is an amazing player, only hope we manage to keep him

Spurs fans clearly rate Parrott and will be hoping to see the youngster make his mark for the senior side.
What do we think?
Parrott is clearly a talented goalscorer and it is a surprise that he has barely featured under Pochettino so far. Harry Kane will, of course, be the regular starter for Spurs and his goal record completely justifies that. However, with the incoming fixture build-up over Christmas, perhaps we will see Parrott get his first Premier League minutes.
