A lot of Spurs fans were happy to hear that the club are weighing up a move for Ajax man Hakim Ziyech in January; with many fans excited about the possibility of seeing the Moroccan at the North London club.
According to 90min_Football (via Ricky Sacks), Mauricio Pochettino is considering a move for the 26-year-old attacking midfielder, potentially as a replacement for Christian Eriksen; who is likely to leave either in January or at the end of the season with his contract set to expire.
Ziyech was instrumental in Ajax’s incredible Champions League run last season; which was of course dramatically ended by Spurs in the semi-final. He scored a wonderful goal in that game and his impressive form has continued into this season, with the attacker averaging an extremely impressive 8.27 rating in all competitions for Erik ten Hag’s side. This includes six and 11 assists already this season, which suggests that he could add a serious attacking threat should he make the move to the Premier League.
Naturally, Spurs fans are excited about the possibility of signing the 26-year-old, as can be seen in the tweets below.
This should have been done the moment we beat them last season…#ClassAct

Would be a class signing but we need to focus on improving our defence first

Would be a brilliant signing. Class player. But with Levy’s limited funds the defence is key.

Spurs fans are clearly keen on Ziyech but seem worried that transfer funds should be dedicated to signing defenders rather than another attacker.
What do we think?
Ziyech is a superbly talented player and Spurs should have signed him in the summer when he reportedly had a release clause of just £25 million. The Moroccan international has since signed a new contract with Ajax meaning he would presumably cost significantly more and is currently valued at £36 million by Transfermarkt. With Ziyech performing brilliantly once again Ajax will certainly not want to see him go in January, so it may take a huge bid from Spurs if they want to sign him but with the possible exit of Eriksen, Ziyech seems like the ideal replacement.
