Following the appointment of Jose Mourinho last week, many Spurs fans are now hoping that the new boss can deal with the ongoing problem of Christian Eriksen and his refusal to sign a new contract.
In a post from Alasdair Gold, fans were asked their thoughts on the Eriksen situation and it seems as if the majority of fans want to see the 27-year-old leave the club. The Danish international joined Spurs from Ajax in 2013 and has gone on to make 292 appearances for the North London side; scoring 68 goals in his six years at the club.
However, Eriksen made it very clear following Spurs’ Champions League defeat in May that he wanted to leave the club, although a summer transfer never materialised. With his current deal due to expire at the end of the season, Eriksen was still afforded regular game-time under the previous manager Mauricio Pochettino.
Eriksen came off the bench in Jose Mourinho’s first game as manager against West Ham at the weekend and it seems as if the 56-year-old is less willing to play the 27-year-old until he affirms his commitment to the club.
Thoughts from Spurs fans on the Eriksen situation can be seen in the tweets below.
Get rid of him as soon as possible. His done at Spurs

If Eriksen really does want to leave in January then sell him. It’s become a tedious saga, a boring distraction. It should be thank you and goodbye.

I think (and hope) Jose will continue to drop him to the bench until January when he is then sold. He’s heart is obviously not in, and it has shown.

Just get rid of him even when he came on yesterday he was the worst player on the pitch he has lost it

He needs to leave in Jan, he wants to go and we get some money best for both parties.

It was clear for everyone to see he just doesnt want it. All other 13 players involved yesterday looked up for it
Eriksen barely broke a sweat. He isnt Tottenham anymore and its getting to the point where he will be hated when he does go
Drop from squad, Cut ties in January

These Spurs fans are clearly hoping to see Mourinho sell Eriksen at his earliest opportunity and will want the club to recuperate as much of his £90 million value as possible.
What do we think?
Mourinho will rightly continue to bench Eriksen unless he changes his mind and decides to sign a new contract with the club, although foreign clubs will be able to approach the 27-year-old in January.
Spurs have the likes of Giovani Lo Celso and Dele Alli, so they will not be short on creative midfielders should Eriksen be moved on and at this point Eriksen leaving the club seems the likeliest option.
