Spurs fans were full of praise for right-back Serge Aurier on Tuesday night after the full-back scored and assisted in Spurs’ 4-2 victory over Olympiakos in the Champions League.

Aurier, who signed for Spurs from PSG in 2017, was instrumental in Spurs’ comeback victory; assisting the first goal for Dele Alli and scoring a sumptuous half volley to give the home side the lead in the second half. Aurier has been criticised at times by Spurs fans for his performances this season, most notably against Southampton and Bayern Munich, but the 26-year-old has made an excellent start under Jose Mourinho.

Aurier received an 8.24 rating for his display against Olympiakos and the Ivorian now has three goal contributions in Mourino’s first two games in charge, following his assist against West Ham on Saturday. Suddenly fans who were slating Aurier after his early-season form are commending his recent displays and will be hoping that his inspired form under the new manager can continue in the upcoming home game against Bournemouth.

Has Serge Aurier been the best Spurs player in Mourinho's first two games?

Reaction from Spurs fans to Aurier’s performance can be seen in the tweets below.

Spurs fans were clearly delighted with Aurier’s display against Olympiakos as he looks to be a completely different player under Mourinho.

What do we think?

Aurier, who is valued at £13.5 million (Transfermarkt), has always been a talented player but was prone to mistakes under Mauricio Pochettino, so if Mourinho can help him cut those out and encourage him to continue playing with the same sort of confidence he played with on Tuesday night, then Spurs look to suddenly have a top-class right-back on their hands.
