Some Spurs fans were feeling sorry for Heung-Min Son after he appeared to break down in a post-match interview on Saturday after Spurs sunk to 14th following the draw with Sheffield United.

Son, who is valued at £72 million (Transfermarkt), opened the scoring against the Blades and was one of only a few Spurs players who could escape the game with any credit after Mauricio Pochettino’s side were outplayed by the newly-promoted team. The home side were probably lucky to get a point against Sheffield United after Chris Wilder’s team had a goal harshly chalked off by VAR in the second half.

Son was clearly upset following the game and earned the sympathy of a lot of frustrated Spurs fans; who were no doubt disappointed to see them struggle against a side of the ‘stature’ of Sheffield United. Son has been impressive for Spurs so far this season, with the South Korean managing a 7.41 average rating for the Premier League strugglers.

Despite Son’s best efforts, it was another poor result for Pochettino’s side and you could see how much their poor form is affecting the 27-year-old from his post-match interview.

Reaction to Son’s interview and performance can be seen in the tweets from Spurs fans below:

Spurs fans are clearly delighted with Son’s response to the draw, with many so sympathetic they want to see him leave in order to win trophies.

What do we think?

Son has been one of Spurs’ most consistent performers since signing from Bayer Leverkusen in 2015, having scored 75 goals for the club in his 203 appearances. The fact that many Spurs fans are hoping to see Son earn a transfer to a club more capable of winning trophies suggests that many fans have given up on their season already.

Spurs have a real opportunity to earn a couple of wins in their upcoming games against West Ham and Bournemouth, which could completely turn things around.
