Spurs are one team who may be considering Lyon striker Memphis Depay in the January transfer window with the Dutchman a big fan of Tanguy Ndombele, but it seems as if Spurs fans are not keen on the former Manchester United man.

When speaking about Ndombele, Depay reportedly (via TranSPURS) said; “Tanguy is a wonderful character to have in the dressing room and I love him, me and him we have a good understanding of things.”

The two played together at Lyon before Ndombele’s move to the Premier League in the summer and some fans are speculating that the 25-year-old could follow suit.

Depay is well known by Premier League fans after his time with Manchester United between 2015 and 2017. The Dutchman was highly rated when he joined from PSV Eindhoven but he failed to live up to expectations and was promptly sold on to Lyon in the 2017 January transfer window.

It seems as if Depay has rediscovered his early-career form with the French side; hitting 50 goals in his 142 appearances for Lyon so far.

Despite his impressive stats, the majority of Spurs fans are not happy with the rumours linking him to a move to North London in January, as can be seen in the tweets below.

These tweets show that the majority of Spurs fans are not keen on signing Memphis Depay in January and are hoping that transfer funds are spent on improving their defence.

What do we think?

Depay has been excellent since signing with Lyon and was perhaps unfortunate in his timing when it came to playing for Manchester United, as many quality players struggled to perform under Louis Van Gaal.

The Dutchman has started this season in superb fashion; scoring seven goals in 10 Ligue 1 games and earning a 7.73 average rating in all competitions.

Perhaps it is not the area which Spurs need to focus on, with their defence really struggling so far this season, but if he were to join Spurs there’s no reason why he couldn’t succeed alongside Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son.
