Despite Bruno Fernandes signing a new contract with Sporting Lisbon this week it seems as if new Spurs boss Jose Mourinho is still interested in the 25-year-old midfielder.

According to the Portuguese outlet Record (via Sport Witness), the Sporting captain would still welcome a move away from the club in the upcoming transfer window despite his new contract with the Liga NOS side.

Interestingly, it’s claimed that Tottenham had already been interested in the player, and the interest grew with Jose Mourinho’s arrival, especially because of his wish to strengthen the squad in the winter market.

Fernandes has been in superb form for Sporting Lisbon this season; averaging a 7.7 rating in all competitions, as well as producing nine goals and six assists. The playmaker was a summer target for both Spurs and Manchester United following an electric 2018/19 season in which he hit 20 goals in 33 league appearances for Sporting.

TIF Tactics:

Although Fernandes has signed a new deal, you would expect the 25-year-old to seek a move to a bigger club should his impressive form continue. It is difficult to see where he fits into this Spurs side at the moment, especially considering the resurgence of Dele Alli under Mourinho and Giovani Lo Celso’s presence, but Fernandes would certainly be a quality addition to Spurs’ side.

If Spurs can move on Christian Eriksen in January for a fee, rather than potentially losing him in the summer on a free transfer, then Fernandes could be the ideal replacement for the Danish midfielder and it seems as if Mourinho remains very keen on the 25-year-old.
