Carles Alena becomes the latest attacking midfielder to be linked with a move to Spurs in January, but fans are less than keen on the Barcelona midfielder.
According to El Mundo Deportivo (via Ricky Sacks), Barcelona are keen for the 21-year-old to move out on loan in January, with the La Masia graduate having featured just once for the senior team so far this season. Spurs are reportedly monitoring the possibility of making a move ahead of the opening window.
Alena’s last appearance for Barcelona came in their opening day defeat by Athletic Bilbao and he has not appeared in the first-team since under Ernesto Valverde. It is no surprise to see the 21-year-old being touted to clubs on loan as Barcelona look to further his development. However, Spurs fans are not happy to see him linked with their side, with many concerned he wouldn’t get into their team even if he was signed.
Reactions from Spurs fans to the transfer link to Alena can be seen in the tweets below.
Pointless as we won’t play him.

These tweets clearly show that the majority of Spurs fans are not interested in signing Alena in January.
What do we think?
It seems strange that Spurs are being linked to the loan signing of Alena when they remain relatively strong in terms of attacking squad depth. Of course, Giovani Lo Celso’s loan move hasn’t exactly benefited him so far, which can be put down to a lack of playing time and an injury, so Alena may be wise to look elsewhere.
Interestingly, the player is valued at £27 million (Transfermarkt), which is quite a hefty valuation for a player who is yet to really prove himself at the top.
Alena, while tremendously talented, doesn’t seem like Spurs’ saviour at the moment, considering the youngster barely has any game-time under his belt and would have to adjust to the demands of the Premier League
