With Mauricio Pochettino struggling to turn Spurs’ season around, it is only natural that fans are considering a host of candidates to take over the job should the Argentinian be sacked. However, fans were less than impressed after reports broke that Spurs may consider England boss Gareth Southgate at the end of the season.
With Pochettino’s job seemingly hanging in the balance, Daniel Levy is reportedly (as per Telegraph) considering possible options to take over the job at the end of the season; with Gareth Southgate one name on his list.
The England manager was appointed as coach of the national team in 2016 and helped them to a first World Cup semi-final since Italia ’90. Despite his heroics with the national team, many Spurs fans are not keen on having the 49-year-old take a job at club level.
Reaction from Spurs fans to the potential appointment of Southgate can be seen in the tweets below.
southgate can do one.

Are you kidding me Howe or Soutgate !!!!! Might as well ask Sherwood that’s how much a backward step either of them would be. The first time Poch has come in for some negative attention and we are already picking out replacement. Just take a second and remember where we were.

The majority of Spurs fans are clearly not keen on having the England boss take over at Spurs and will be hoping that the club can find a better alternative should Pochettino end up leaving.
What do we think?
This is all hypothetical, as Pochettino hasn’t left yet and it would be a surprise to see him sacked with his contract running until 2023. Gareth Southgate’s last venture into club management was with Championship side Middlesbrough but after three years with the club he was sacked in 2009.
He’s not exactly proven at club level, so perhaps bringing him to North London wouldn’t be the smartest of ideas.
