When speaking to Football Insider ahead of Liverpool’s crucial match against Manchester City, ex-England keeper Paul Robinson highlighted City wonderkid Phil Foden as a potential danger man for Liverpool to be wary of.

Robinson, who attended City’s 2-1 win over Southampton on Saturday, described Foden’s performance as follows:

“Well do you know what…Phil Foden came off the bench and he kind of changed the tempo of the game, he changed the pace of the game, he created chances, he had a couple of chances for himself and I think he’s outstanding.

“He’s obviously a local who is having to bide his time there, but with David Silva going at the end of the season, he’s obviously been earmarked for that position, that slot if you like, so he’s having to bide his time as he’s getting very little game time.

“But when he came off the bench, I thought he was outstanding with everything that he did.”

The former Leeds, Blackburn and Spurs man clearly rates Foden and believes he can make an impact in their game at Liverpool.

Foden is yet to start a Premier League game this season but after an impressive cameo against Southampton, Pep Guardiola may decide to give the 19-year-old a surprising start. The academy graduate made his debut for City as a late substitute in a 4-1 win over Spurs in 2017 and has gone on to establish himself as a regular option off the bench for the current Premier League holders.

The youngster has not only impressed off the bench in the Premier League in recent times, scoring for City in the Champions League and grabbing a brace for Aidy Boothroyd’s England U’21 side. Liverpool fans will remain confident, however, as despite Foden’s strong recent form, Jurgen Klopp’s side hold the home advantage over Guardiola’s side. Indeed, Liverpool remain unbeaten in the Premier League and have a good record against City at Anfield, with their last loss being in May 2003.

It remains to be seen as to whether the Englishman will be trusted with a starting spot in what is likely to be one of the most important games of the season for both clubs.
