Some Norwich City fans are delighted that young defender Akin Famewo has put pen to paper on a new deal at Carrow Road.

Famewo, 20, is yet to play a single Premier League game for the side this season. But the youngster has played five times in Premier League 2 for the Under-23s Canaries outfit this season.

The club confirmed that the Londoner has put pen to paper on a three-and-a-half-year deal, extending his stay at East Anglia till the summer of 2023.

Some Norwich fans seem visibly excited by the news and want the player to start in the next few games for the first-team.

Famewo arrived at Carrow Road from current Championship side Luton Town in January 2019 and he has captained the Under-23s side in every game that he has played this season.

He has also been part of the first-team training under Daniel Farke this season, even though he is yet to make a single appearance for the German’s senior side.

He might not have played, but Famewo was on the bench for Norwich’s home game against Aston Villa last month, as they sustained a 5-1 defeat. He was also named among the substitutes in the goalless draw at Bournemouth.

Some more fans felt that the defender’s age should not matter and he should be slotted straight into Farke’s side on Friday.

Norwich have been struggling defensively this season. The club has the second-worst defensive record in the Premier League and have conceded just one goal fewer than Southampton, who were at the receiving end of a 9-0 hammering at the hands of Leicester recently.

What do we think?

It is clear that Farke’s men aren’t enjoying themselves at the back. They have conceded as many as 12 goals in their last five Premier League games, conceding five against Villa and three against Manchester United.

Playing Famewo against Watford on Friday would be a case of having nothing to lose and everything to gain. It will only have a positive, considering how bad things are at the back.
