Some Manchester United fans are unhappy with the club’s tweet about the UEFA Europa League ahead of their game against Partizan Belgrade today.

United finished sixth in the Premier League last season under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and are taking part in the Europa League this season.

The Red Devils have been placed in a group that has AZ Alkmaar, Partizan Belgrade and Astana, with rivals Arsenal also in the same competition in another group.

United face Serbian visitors Partizan at Old Trafford today, two weeks after they managed to beat them 1-0 in Belgrade. But a tweet about the competition from the club’s Twitter handle has left fans enraged.

This is United’s third campaign in the Europa League ever since Sir Alex Ferguson retired at the end of the 2012-13 season.

They played in the competition in the 2015-16 season under Louis van Gaal after they had finished third in the UEFA Champions League group. But fierce rivals Liverpool knocked them out at that time.

Under Jose Mourinho, the Old Trafford club won the Europa League in the 2016-17 season. They beat Ajax 2-0 win the final, after eliminating Spanish side Celta Vigo in the semi-final.

Some United fans expressed their frustrations with the side.

United are currently unbeaten in the Europa League this season. They beat Partizan won 1-0, beating Astana by the same margin at Old Trafford. But they were held to a goalless draw by Dutch side AZ away from home.

Solskjaer’s men may have scored only two goals in the competition, but they are yet to concede in a single game.

What do we think?

Winning the Europa League would appear to be United’s best chance of getting Champions League football next season at the moment. They are currently tenth in the Premier League, ten points off fourth-placed Chelsea. It seems unlikely that they will finish there, but winning the Europa League will ensure qualification for Europe’s premier competition for next season. With that in mind, perhaps, Solskjaer should give priority to it, apart from trying to naturally finish as high as possible in the Premier League.
