Some Manchester United fans still can’t get over the fact that summer signing Daniel James cost them as low as £15million some months ago.

The Wales international has done well in his first season at Old Trafford and this is also his first season in the Premier League. He has scored three goals, racking up a tally of two assists on the way too.

He has played 12 games in the Premier League for United this season, also appearing twice in the club’s UEFA Europa League campaign.

Some United fans can’t believe that a player like them costed their club so less in this past summer transfer window.

The 22-year-old joined United from Championship side Swansea City this past summer for a fee of £15m, plus £3m in add-ons. He had joined just days after his father had died at the age of 60.

For the Swans last season, James played 33 times in the Championship for the club. He had scored four times in the league, racking up a tally of nine assists. In the FA Cup, he had scored and assisted one time each.

James had spent a loan spell at Scunthorpe in 2017 but had failed to make a single first-team appearance for the club. He was close to joining Leeds United in the January of 2019, but the move failed to materialise at the last minute.

Some United fans feel that the club needs more players like the winger.

James had scored his first United goal on his debut for the club in their 4-0 win over Chelsea. He has scored against Southampton and Crystal Palace as well.

What do we think

It is fair to say that James’ signing has been a revelation. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has shown that he does have an eye for talent, even though United aren’t in the best of situations on the pitch. He deserves a big amount of credit for that, and James presents an example of the sort of players United should look to sign going forward.
