Some Manchester United do not appear to be upset about the potential exit of midfielder Nemanja Matic, who is said to be open to leaving the club.

The Serbian, who is valued at £22.5 million (Transfermarkt), has been linked with a move to Serie A giants Inter, with Manchester Evening News claiming that he is concerned by the limited role he is currently given at Old Trafford.

This season, Matic has appeared thrice in the Premier League, making just two starts. He has also made two starts in the Europa League, failing to score or assist even once in all competitions.

But some United fans are happy that Matic might leave the club.

Matic joined United in the summer of 2017 for a fee of £40million from Chelsea, where he won three Premier League titles. He won a title each under Jose Mourinho, Carlo Ancelotti and current Inter boss Antonio Conte.

Since arriving, the midfielder has played 92 times in all competitions for the club. He has scored three times, assisting a further three.

He played for the Serbian national team in the FIFA World Cup last year, playing all three of their games in the group stages of the tournament. Some United fans fear that the club will fail to replace the midfielder.

What do we think?

It is a complicated situation for United. They have been poor at replacing important players, but Matic isn’t a first-team player anyway. United are doing well in Scott McTominay in deeper midfield, even though they will need a proper defensive midfielder when Matic leaves.

Axel Tuanzebe can play as a defensive midfielder, as can young James Garner. There is a chance United use them in that position, as the season wears on.
