Manchester City goalkeeper, Claudio Bravo, could be set to leave the Etihad Stadium upon the expiry of his contract, according to El Mercurio.

It has been reported that the stopper will leave the club upon the expiry of his contract in June 2020 after receiving several offers from MLS clubs for his services (via Sport Witness).

The most alluring of which is, reportedly, a four-year deal with New York City for the 36-year-old ‘keeper.

Never lived up to expectations

When the Chilean was signed from Barcelona for £15.4 million in the summer of 2016 (per BBC), expectations were high of the man who was set to replace cult hero, Joe Hart.

However, many will admit that those expectations were never met and Pep Guardiola was left in need of a replacement stopper after a string of poor performances (as per The Mirror).

With only 16 clean sheets in 49 appearances for City, the 36-year-old has conceded 50 across the entirety of his three-and-a-half years in Greater Manchester (as per Transfermarkt).

TiF Tactics – Will Guardiola need to sign a replacement?

Whether the Spaniard will or will not sign a replacement should the Chilean leave in the summer only really the City gaffer will know, however, does he need to? Not really.

Man City has two young, 21-year-old goalkeepers coming through the ranks at the Etihad, with Daniel Grimshaw as one and on-loan stopper Arijanet Muric another.

The latter of the two, Muric, is currently spending the season with Nottingham Forest, although not a starter since the early part of the season, he is gaining first-team experience (as per Transfermarkt).

Grimshaw has only featured within the youth set-up at the Etihad this term (via Transfermarkt), but between the two of them, they offer potential back-up options for Ederson should they still be part of Guardiola’s plans.

Zack Steffen is also another goalkeeper that City could potentially call upon, however, it seems as though he is not in any first-team plans at City (as per The Guardian).
