After a recent interview discussing Liverpool defender Joel Matip’s Super Cup celebration was posted by the club, it seems a lot of Reds fans are missing the Cameroonian and want him back in the side as soon as possible.
The defender, who is valued at £31.5 million (Transfermarkt), has become a bit of an internet sensation for his unusual celebration after the Super Cup penalty win over Chelsea; thanks to the Twitter account ‘No Context Matip’. The 28-year-old has become a popular figure at Anfield since signing on a free transfer from Schalke in 2016 and largely outperformed Virgil van Dijk at the start of the season; earning a 7.34 average rating so far this campaign.
Unfortunately for Matip and Reds fans, the defender has been out injured since the end of October after suffering a setback and Liverpool fans are clearly beginning to miss the former Schalke man. Dejan Lovren has been deputising for the 28-year-old in his absence and is doing a solid job, but Jurgen Klopp will, of course, want the Cameroon international back fit as soon as possible.
Reaction from Reds fans to Matip’s recent soar in internet popularity can be seen in the tweets below.

Liverpool fans clearly want Matip back as soon as possible as they look to continue their unbeaten start to the Premier League.
What do we think?
Liverpool’s two clean sheets this season have both come in games that Matip has started; away at Sheffield United and Burnley respectively. The defender has made an excellent start to the season and formed a solid partnership with Van Dijk; something which could be vital if Liverpool are to go on to win the Premier League this season.
