Liverpool fans were baffled by former player Danny Murphy’s recent comments, in which he suggested that Spurs striker Harry Kane would get into the Reds team ahead of Roberto Firmino.

When speaking with Goal.com, Murphy stated: “I love Firmino but he’s not Harry Kane” suggesting that England’s captain would be first-choice striker if he moved to Anfield. Firmino joined from Hoffenheim in 2015 and has gone on to make 210 appearances for the Reds; scoring 69 goals in that time.

Kane, who is valued at £135 million (as per Transfermarkt), has 174 goals for Spurs in his 268 appearances, which is to be expected as he is a much more out-and-out front-man that Firmino. The Brazilian forward is used to link-up play with Liverpool’s free-scoring wingers Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah, meaning the 28-year-old often misses out on the glory when it comes to goals.

Reaction from Liverpool fans to Murphy’s comparison can be seen in the tweets below.

Liverpool fans were quick to defend Firmino after Danny Murphy’s comments and it seems as if they wouldn’t want to swap Firmino for anyone at the world in his current form.

What do we think?

Kane and Firmino are two individually brilliant players but they play very different striker roles so it is incredibly hard to compare them. Kane might be more of a natural goal-scorer but Firmino works hard all over the pitch and regularly picks up assists; with 55 to his name already in a Liverpool shirt.

Firmino has averaged a 7.42 this season compared to Kane’s 7.02 but it would certainly be interesting to see how many goals Kane would score in a side of Liverpool’s quality.
