Despite not being at England training for the incident between Manchester City star Raheem Sterling and Liverpool defender Joe Gomez on Monday, it seems as if Jordan Henderson was the peacemaker between the two and many Liverpool fans are loving the 29-year-old’s leadership qualities.

According to the Mirror, Henderson spoke to both Sterling and Gomez on the phone and helped to calm the situation after the two players had a minor scuffle. It came after Liverpool’s 3-1 win over Manchester City on Sunday, in which the two players clashed towards the end of the game. Sterling has subsequently been dropped by Gareth Southgate for the games against Montenegro and Kosovo as England seek to secure qualification from the group.

After Henderson seemingly played a large part in helping to defuse the situation between the two players, a lot of Liverpool fans have been calling for the former Sunderland man to be made England captain in place of Harry Kane.

Reaction from Reds fans to Henderson’s actions can be seen in the tweets below.

Liverpool fans are clearly impressed with Henderson’s leadership skills.

What do we think?

It is surprising that nothing is being reported about Kane’s response to the incident considering he is the captain. It seems clear that Henderson is one of the key leaders in the England squad but perhaps loses out to Kane as he isn’t a guaranteed starter, unlike the Spurs striker.

Nevertheless, Liverpool fans can be proud of their leader, who is valued at £31.5 million (Transfermarkt).
