Liverpool fans were given a laugh on Twitter this week after it was revealed by former Everton director of football Steve Walsh that the club turned down the chance to sign Andy Robertson when he was at Hull.
In an interview with The Athletic (via AnfieldWatch), Walsh revealed that the club rejected his suggested signings; which would have included Robertson, Harry Maguire and teenage sensation Erling Haaland. Liverpool were the eventual beneficiaries of Robertson, having signed the left-back from Hull in 2017 for just £7 million.
The Scottish full-back has since gone on to establish himself as arguably the best left-back in England and helped the Reds to Champions League success back in May. With the 25-year-old now valued at £54 million by transfermarkt, both Jurgen Klopp and Reds fans will be very grateful they took the chance on the relatively unknown Scotsman.
Reaction from Reds fans to the news that their closest rivals turned down the chance to sign Robertson can be seen in the tweets below.
Of course they think 2nd string players from Barca are better

The deal apparently also included Harry Maguire. And they turned down Erling Braut Haaland as well…

I wouldn’t be surprised, because they don’t know who a quality player is.

Everton ‘rejected’ Andy Robertson thank you Everton

Even if they did get him he wouldn’t be half the player he is without Klopps help.

Liverpool fans are obviously grateful that Robertson joined them rather than their near neighbours and will be hoping to see the 25-year-old remain a key player in the squad for some time to come.
What do we think?
If Walsh’s claims are true then Everton fans will be extremely frustrated they didn’t take the chance on signing Robertson, Maguire and Haaland. Robertson has been superb in his two years with the Reds, contributing three goals and 22 assists in his 96 appearances so far and has continued his excellent form so far this season; averaging a 7.03 rating for the Premier League table-toppers.
