Everton supporters have explained how they miss their former striker, Yakubu, playing for the Toffees.

On Friday, the Goodison Park club posted a happy birthday message to for the Nigerian to wish him well on his 37th birthday (as per Everton).

With fans flooding in to share the club’s sentiments, some explained how they missed the goals of the former frontman and that he would be useful in Marco Silva’s current side.

Affectionately nicknamed ‘the Yak’, the striker spent four years in Merseyside with the Toffees, having arrived in 2007 from Middlesbrough (per Daily Post).

Across 107 outings in Everton blue, Yakubu netted 33 goals and provided 12 assists for teammates (as per Transfermarkt), before leaving in a permanent move to Blackburn Rovers in 2011 (via BBC).

With the striker thrust back into the memories of the Goodison Park faithful due to the birthday message, many contemplated what might have been had he stayed.

What do we think?

As many fans mention, his time in Merseyside was, unfortunately, blighted with injuries and the 37-year-old really could have been something for Everton had he shook those off.

However, his record is still respectable as it is, just unfortunate that it did not go on for longer.
