Everton: Club line up Jorge Jesus in potential Marco Silva switch

|

The Everton hierarchy is interested in replacing Marco Silva with Flamengo’s Jorge Jesus, according to Diario de Noticias.

The report, released on Tuesday by the Portuguese news outlet, explained that with Silva’s time in Merseyside looking over, Farhad Moshiri is angling for the 65-year-old as a replacement (via Liverpool Echo).

Indeed, the report states that he is expected to leave Flamengo after the Club World Cup next month and he hopes to manage a “major European club” following his success and spells with the likes of Sporting and Benfica.

Jesus’ recent successes

At the helm of Brazilian club, Flamengo, the Portuguese manager has enjoyed one of the more successful weeks of his career – having claimed two pieces of silverware (as per Transfermarkt).

On Saturday, the Rio de Janeiro club recorded victory in the Copa Libertadores final, with a 2-1 win over Argentinian side River Plate (as per The Guardian).

Then, 24 hours later, the manager claimed his 14th piece of managerial career silverware without kicking a ball, as Flamengo won the Brazilian Serie A title with four games remaining due to Palmeiras losing to Gremio (as per BBC).

TiF Tactics – Would he be a good fit for Everton?

According to Transfermarkt, the Portuguese manager’s preferred formation of choice is a 4-2-3-1, which has been deployed by Silva frequently this season.

Furthermore, it is clear that the Toffees need positive results in the short term as, following the next six fixtures (via Sky Sports), their position in the Premier League table could look perilous (via BBC).

Therefore, Jesus could implement his preferred formation and not put too much pressure on the players to perform in a new system in the short term.

While it is debatable if the 65-year-old could provide long-term stability, which the Toffees are in need of, his record of 2.45 points per match over 33 games with Flamengo is impressive (as per Transfermarkt).

Also, with 14 pieces of silverware under his belt, it is clear that the former Benfica manager is a winner – which could make him an astute move for Moshiri.
