Marco Silva is interested in bringing Hoffenheim midfielder Dennis Geiger to Goodison Park, according to Sport 1.

The German news outlet has reported that the Toffees are ‘interested’ in signing the 21-year-old from the Bundesliga outfit (via Sport Witness).

The midfielder, who is valued at £7.65 million (Transfermarkt), has featured in nine outings for Hoffenheim in the league so far this term, bagging three assists for die Kraichgauer (per Transfermarkt).

Strong competition for the signature

Should Everton be able to tempt Geiger to Goodison Park, then they will have been able to ward off strong competition from top clubs.

As stated in the report by Sport 1, reigning Premier League champions Manchester City also have an interest in bringing the player to England.

Alongside Pep Guardiola’s outfit, German gargantuan, Bayern Munich, also have a strong liking towards the 21-year-old midfielder (via Sport Witness).

TiF Tactics – How does Geiger compare to what Everton have?

It is doubtless, it would cost the Merseyside club a hefty sum to bring the German to Goodison Park – with a contract running until the summer of 2022 and no release clause (per Transfermarkt).

But, should Silva be able to pull off a masterstroke and bring in the 21-year-old, he would solve a lot of Everton’s issues in midfield.

In the defensive orientated side of central midfield, the club has Jean-Philippe Gbamin and Andre Gomes recovering from injury (per Everton).

Leaving Silva with Beni Beningime, who lacks first-team experience, Morgan Schneiderlin, who is now 30, as well as Fabian Delph and Tom Davies – the most talented of the trio.

While Geiger’s average rating this season is weaker than Davies’ – 6.54/10 to the Englishman’s 6.69/10 (per Whoscored) – both are still developing at the age of 21 and interest from Guardiola and the likes of Bayern Munich shows just how highly-rated the midfielder is.
